Forgiving Grace

"You are my hiding place; you shall preserve me from trouble; you shall surround me with songs of deliverance."  ~Psalm 32:7

God is our hiding place!  How sad that so many feel they must hide from God...even many Christians believe this to be true.

An unbeliever has much to fear if they are defying God and His word.  They will face devastating consequences.

"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned."  ~John 15:6

However, the believer need not fear God but take refuge in Him instead!

"For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;  in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me;  He shall set me high upon a rock."  ~Psalm 27: 5
God is a loving and merciful God to those who don't blatantly disregard Him.  He wants to "preserve us from trouble" and He uses the Holy Spirit to speak warnings and guidance to our hearts.

For those with addictions or struggles that need to be overcome, He wants to surround them with "songs of deliverance."

"Blessed is he who's transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.  Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit."  ~Psalm 32:1-2
We don't have to live in fear of God's judgments if we have trusted Jesus for salvation and forgiveness of our sins.  Unfortunately, many of us, when faced with the shame of our sin, distance ourselves from God because we're afraid our transgressions have changed God's feelings toward us.

Believing Christian, next time you feel that guilt that tries to push you away from God, I encourage you to come close to Him instead.  Rather than the wrath you're afraid of, you'll find Him singing over you a cleansing song of deliverance!

  3. Following from the Matrimonal Mondays link-up.

Once, several years ago, while driving to work during the rain, I hit a patch of oil on a wet road and lost control of the mini-van I was driving. After the van came to a stop, I found out I had left the road after a 180 degree turn. I also found out that my driver's door would not open. I climbed out the passenger side door and saw that a little 6" guardrail was all that stood between the van and the wooded steep hill. If I had stopped a foot or more either way from where I did...there's a good chance I would not be writing this comment. God is GOOD!

  4. Wonderful post, Sarah! I love that we serve a loving God and He sings over us when we come to Him with a repentant heart. So glad I know Him and I can come to Him at any time. Love the picture of the little bunny and little boy. Have a beautiful day.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  5. Sarah, I’m always so inspired by your words and musings, and this post is certainly no different in providing that feeling. I am very familiar with these parts of the Bible you have quoted, but I still appreciate when somebody gathers the pieces and presents a nice reminder of the meaning behind them. They are like tiny lessons and refresher courses in the beauty that is God and all of his love. I do keep my faith strong and I am reminded that I cannot turn away from him or hide when I feel ashamed with my transgressions and mistakes. After all, God did ask his only son to feel the pain so that we could be washed of our sins. So why do we, in time, begin to feel ashamed about our shortcomings and find ourselves drifting from God? Has he not already made the greatest sacrifice to save us? Has he ever turned from us in our time of need? Common Marriage Issues
