Christian Book Reviews

Over the years, many readers have asked me for a list of wholesome reads either for their daughters or for themselves. I do a lot of reading and I blog about some of my reads at Belle's Library. On this page, I will endeavor to provide detailed content reviews on books deemed to be Christian, as well as other wholesome reads I come across. I won't give full book reviews on this page, but will link to a review at Belle's Library. The purpose of this page is solely for a heads up on potentially objectionable content. If you are aware of other resources similar to this, please let me know and I'll add them to my Resources page.

Language, violence, sexual scenes and innuendo, and other negative content will be noted in each review. If it's not listed, you can expect it's not a part of the story. My "appropriate for" notes are based on my standards for my own family.

Please be aware, I've just started this Christian Book Review page in March 2017. It will take me some time to get it built up and it will be an ongoing project. Please continue to check back for updates.

Nonfiction

Courageous Gentleness by Mary Ann Froehlich: Encouraging and Inspiring, Character Building. Appropriate for all ages but best understood by women with some life experience.

Stepping Heavenward by Mrs. Elizabeth Prentiss: Young girl's journey from late teens through late 30s. Marriage, motherhood, learning to appreciate the wisdom found in our own mothers and in life experiences. Appropriate for any age, once a girl has been introduced to the possibility of her own future romance and marriage. Best understood by advanced teen readers and older.

Fiction

Rise Above by Peg Willis: Inspiring and redeeming story based on true events. Some tragic elements include flooding disaster, death, abduction. Appropriate for older teens on up.

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne: One of my favorite stories of redemption, grace, and the way different peoples' handling of their sin impacts their hearts and futures. Implied sexual content, implied illicit romance, hatred. Appropriate for adults.

Books for Teen Girls

Stepping Heavenward by Mrs. Elizabeth Prentiss: Young girl's journey from late teens through late 30s. Marriage, motherhood, learning to appreciate the wisdom found in our own mothers and in life experiences. Appropriate for any age, once a girl has been introduced to the possibility of her own future romance and marriage. Best understood by advanced teen readers and older.

Books for Children

A Door in the Wall by Marguerite de Angeli: Beautiful medieval adventure story with a theme of taking the opportunities that are before us. Character building. Does feature a boy being separated from his parents but reunited in the end. Appropriate for all ages.
