Homemade Peanut Butter Oreos

This week I made these delicious Homemade Peanut Butter Oreos!  I've made Homemade Oreos before, using this recipe from Hope Studios.  This past weekend was the first time I tried them with a peanut butter filling and they are SO yummy!  Here's my recipe for the filling:

Peanut Butter Oreo Filling

4 TB butter
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1-2 TB milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp salt

Mix all ingredients well and scoop in between cookie layers.

I love this cute Log Cabin Paper Quilt activity that Teacher@Home did with her kids.  My little ones would have a blast with this!

This Baby Sock Christmas Ornament is such a cute and simple idea---I can't believe I haven't thought of it!  Thanks, Noreen, from Crafty Journal, for sharing it with us!

I'm really excited about these Peach Crisp Cookie Cups from Shaken Together.  I just started selling Pampered Chef products again and this is a recipe I can make using several of the items in my starter kit!

Obeying When It Doesn't Make Sense

As a parent, I sometimes give my children instructions with no further explanation.  I expect obedience.  Out of trust, (and probably a little fear!) they obey.  As they've gotten older, they've often thanked me for steering them the right way, because they can look back and see that I was working for good in their lives.

I try to remember this concept when it comes to the things of God.  We've heard the saying, "God's ways are not our own."  Some Biblical concepts are beyond our comprehension---others just require an understanding of the Bible as a whole---still others are very clear but seem difficult for us to apply to our own lives in a culture that doesn't understand.

For the past couple of years, my struggle has been with the portion of 1 Corinthians 11 that discusses head covering for women.  The Scripture is pretty clear that women are to cover, at least for the times that we now call "church services".  Beyond that, I think God is putting it on the hearts of many Christian women to cover on a mostly full-time basis.

I've had lots of questions, and my position on the subject has gone back and forth; but the fact is that God is saying something here and I need to do what I can to be obedient.

In each season of our lives, we'll be faced with opportunities to choose to obey God's direction to us. I think true peace comes when we pursue his higher ways and walk in obedience---even when it doesn't make sense.

Our Library Day and the Homemaking Party

When I was a little kid, one of my favorite times of year was when the library summer reading program was running.  Things have changed over the years and I'm not super thrilled with what our local library offers in the summertime, so my Mom and I came up with a fun alternative.  One day each week, the kids and I pick up Grandma Christy and head for the library.  Me, Grandma, and the babies sit in these comfortable couches while the older kids choose their books.  Then we go back to Grandma's for snacks and sharing book reports.

The kids spend the morning at home writing up their reports...

...and making illustrations to go with them.

At the library, I usually let them check out a couple of movies---they know I'll usually always say yes if it's something educational or historical---as those are the kinds I like too!  After they've chosen their stack of books, they come find me and have me look them over for approval before checking them out.

Our library is small, so I usually let even the toddlers go up and do their own checking out.  It makes them feel independent.

During our book report sharing time, each of us (even Grandma and me) takes turns talking about a book we've read and showing our illustrations.  Then Grandma lets everyone choose a prize out of her treasure bags and we have snacks.  It's a fun way to encourage the kids in public speaking and talking about the things they've learned.

Thanks for joining us for the Homemaking Party!  I love to feature some of the neat posts that are linked up---Please make sure and put my button or a text link on each blog post you link up.

Here are a couple of my favorites from last week's party:

Lori from Hungry for God...Starving for Time is such an excellent story-teller.  This week she shared a post called, A Yankee in Watermelon Heaven.  It was just neat and you should read it!

I also really liked this great article about getting A Jump Start on Fall Planting from Let This Mind Be In You.  Thanks, Kristi!
