You Weren’t Raised That Way! {What To Do When You’re Doing It Differently Than Your Parents Did}

I'm at Raising Homemakers this morning answering the most common question I get from my readers. Please come check it out and leave your comments!

  1. Sarah,
    First, Thanks so much for your sweet comments and for taking the time to visit!!
    I read your post about this and I respect your position on this. I hope it works out for you and your family.
    I vowed that I would not do what my mother did to me. I had school and being Number 1 in both my high school classes and School of Nursing rammed down my throat because my sister who is 10 years older than me, was Number One in both those school classes. If I brought home a 98 on a test, I was yelled at for not getting a 100! When I graduated from Nursing School, I vowed i would never return to school unless it was for Craft Classes and I have remained true to that vow. I was told I HAD to be a nurse because my sister was. This is not the profession that I would have picked for myself but I had no choice in the matter.
    Now do not get me wrong because my profession has saved us from banktropcy and from the possibility losing our home because Joe worked in factories and went through many closures of those factories and lay offs because he did not get into the Post Office until the age of 43 years old. My profession has provided us with excellent Health Care and will provide us with a fairly comfortable retirement.
    BUT I still do not know what I want to be when I grow up!!! LOL!!
    I fostered my son's independence when they were growing up and taught them the value of hard work and making their own money( I worked from the age of 12 y/o) and I am proud to say that they are very responsible, independent and happy adults. And after all, isn't that what every mother wants for their children????

    Kudos to you for doing it your way and for doing what feels right to you!!! BRAVO!!

  2. What an interesting opportunity and really cool pictures! Thanks for hosting such a great link up! :)
