Kewpie Baby: Vintage Thingie Thursday

This is my fourth time participating in Vintage Thingie Thursday and I have to say that the last month of participating has been a very informative one! I've been inspired by so many creative bloggers and, therefore, have a new vision and excitement about making my home a cozy and beautiful place! Thank you to every single one of you bloggers who take the time to feature unique and special posts each week! I'm afraid I've become sort of a blogging junkie lately...but there are worse addictions out there!

Today I scrounged up $3 in change to go visit the thrift store next door. (Yes, lucky me, I've got a thrift store LITERALLY next door!!) I was telling my husband yesterday how it's actually kind of fun to give myself a low budget when I go out thrifting because it makes me be more choosy about what I buy and my purchase seems more special to me that way. While I'd usually like to take along a little more than three bucks, I was able to find a few neat things on today's pocket change!

My favorite find today was this adorable Kewpie doll with a handmade bonnet and blankey. I just fell in love with it and had to have it! Lucky for me, it was half price so I was also able to pick up some vintage ribbons and a couple cute decorative diaper pins that I plan to use for scrapbooking.

I imagine some talented Granny made this for her granddaughter...wish I had a Granny around to knit or sew for me! I'll just need to learn on my own, I 'spose!

There are many fun and talented participants today in Vintage Thingie Thursday so take some time to check them out here!

  1. You were lucky to find that little Kewpie doll. They are not easy to find. This one is a cutie.

  2. I had a small hard plastic baby doll that had an outfit my grandmother crocheted. I don't think I would have gotten rid of it, but I can't find it anywhere either.

  3. Aw, what a cute kewpie and blankie! The first thought that came to mind is that my daughter had a crocheted blankie in those exact colors and style when she was a baby (through age 7 or 8). Fun to see this!

  4. Oh, so darling, I love your Kewpie Baby! I agree that it is better to go out thrifting with a budget, it really makes you a better bargain hunter. I've only been thrifting for a few weeks and can't believe what I have found for a few dollars for the most part. How lucky to live next door to a shop, I'd get myself into trouble if it were me!

  5. It has been fun reading your posts too!!! I love it when new bloggers find a comfortable place here and stay!! I love this and agree, reminds me of the dolls grannies used to make for their granddaughters. I love these colors too, so cute. Have a great weekend and a wonderful VTT!

  6. It really is adorable.

You are so right. It's much more fun to shop with a budget that makes you appreciate the little things.

By the way, I homeschooled both of my children through to graduation. I so miss those days. They're both out on their own now.

I'm visiting from Coloradolady. Please stop by my cottage for a peek at the details for the three new linky parties I'm starting up the first week of June.

    Have a wonderful Memorial weekend!

  12. So glad you found VTT and what a nice addition you are! I've been away for awhile, so I missed your first three posts, but I'll catch up soon. Yes, you should learn to crochet and knit...with seven kids, I bet you would love the items you could make and a bit of relaxing time as well. The Kewpie doll is such a keeper with it's little blankee. I've made several out of that same yarn for my GrandGals baby dolls and for them. Nice post and Happy VTT...Sue

  14. She is a cutie! I'm pretty frugal these days too, but even if I did not need to be, I'd still shop the thrifts. It's a great place for vintage one of a kind thingies!!

  16. Adorable little doll! I have a house full of boys and my grans are gone now, so no one to knit for me and no one for me to knit for! I do remember getting little dolls like this from my great aunts when I was a girl though. Thanks for sharing and Happy VTT!

  19. Thank you for visiting and leaving your sweet comment on my Vintage Thingies Thursday...Wicker Pram! I was so excited when I found this wicker pram with the red and white gingham hood and red wheels, I knew, of course, that I had to add red geraniums.

  25. I love looking aournd in thrift stores! Your kewpie doll is so cute, and her little blanket and bonnet are so pretty. Yes, the Potawatomi reservation is just north of Topeka, not far from here. I think it is so interesting to learn about our ancestors.
